       A Blueberry Hill Farm Update

We have just returned from Bowling Green, our last batch of chickens is in the freezer.

2009 didn’t go exactly as we had planned. Chicken enthusiasm was great at the beginning of the year! As the year progressed, said enthusiasm waned. Was it the economy? The product? The location? The level of convenience? We just don’t know. Fresh egg interest stayed very high, higher than we could produce. Currently our eggs are available off the farm at Campbellsburg Supermarket and Foxhollow Farm Store in Crestwood on Hwy 329.

A personal review of 2009 is in order. One which we hope will bring renewed energy and peace to our farm but most of all to our family. We strive daily, looking forward to our prize, to be the family that God intends us to be. It is not always easy. Decisions are sometimes hard to make. They require long periods of thought and consideration.

In the coming months we will be doing just that. We will be making decisions for 2010 based on this year, as well as some bills that are in the Senate and House right now.

Remember, the freedom to choose your farmer, know your farmer, eat fresh and local foods is entirely in your (the consumer) hands. For the family farm to continue you must support us. Show your desire, make an extra stop to go by the farm and pick up some fresh produce or eggs or meat.

Blueberry Hill Farm
..creating a destination for your family memories

Blueberry Hill Farm is now 13 years old. A great deal has changed since Fred and Melinde Leport (my mom and dad), bought the property in 1996. Dad and Mom planted roughly 1000 Northern Highbush blueberries, asparagus- both green and delicious purple, a small apple-peach-pear orchard, and a few bee hives.  Mom and Dad no longer live permanently on the property. That’s their R.V. you see parked next to the barn. Ahh! Retirement does have its perks doesn’t it?
Today we reap buckets of blueberries and have a U-Pick available. Our asparagus planting has tripled and does quite well at the local market. Through trial and error and pesky weather we have 5 bee hives with 5 more coming this spring. Local, unadulterated honey is absolutely the best! If you didn't get any of our honey this year you missed out! It was terrific!!
My family has taken over the daily running of Blueberry Hill Farm, I am their daughter Kristi. My husband Alan & I, daughter Jenni and sons Moses & Aaron love farm life.
Desiring to stay busy year round we’ve added brown-egg laying chickens, Nubian dairy goats and in 2007 for the first time pumpkins and gourds.

Blueberry Hill Farm will always remain pesticide free. This means that you can eat the berries right from the bush and asparagus straight out of the dirt.
Our goal is always to have clean, fresh food…”Nothing tastes better than fresh.Stop by… we are looking forward to meeting you!

Unfortunately, this March, my mom lost her battle with Alzheimer Disease.  Her desire to have clean food, no pesticides, and plenty of wildlife will remain our focus. Thanks Mom for a great start!
